Trapped Dog Shields Kitten During Airstrike, Both Rescued Alive from Rubble
A dog and a kitten have been rescued alive from beneath the rubble of a collapsed residential area following an early-morning airstrike, in what rescue teams are calling an extraordinary act of instinct and protection.

The incident occurred before dawn, when heavy bombardment struck a neighborhood, causing multiple structures to collapse within minutes. Amid the destruction, responders detected faint sounds coming from a narrow void under broken concrete and debris.
After hours of careful excavation, rescuers uncovered a golden-colored dog—later identified as Bruno—curled tightly around a small striped kitten. Both animals were trapped in a confined space, covered in dust and debris.
According to rescue workers, the dog appeared to have positioned his body as a barrier, shielding the kitten from falling debris and exposure. “He was protecting it the entire time,” one responder said. “Even when we reached them, he didn’t move away until we gently separated them.”
Bruno was found with minor injuries and signs of exhaustion, while the kitten showed symptoms of shock but no critical wounds. Both were immediately transported to a nearby veterinary facility for treatment and observation.
Veterinarians confirmed that despite prolonged entrapment, both animals are expected to recover. Bruno is receiving care for dehydration and soft tissue injuries, while the kitten is being monitored for stress and respiratory issues caused by dust inhalation.
Rescue teams noted that the survival of both animals was likely due to their proximity and the dog’s protective posture, which may have reduced the kitten’s exposure to debris and cold.
The pair are currently being kept under supervised care and are expected to remain together during recovery.
Officials say the case stands out not only for the survival of the animals under extreme conditions, but also for the unusual bond observed between them during the incident.
In a scene marked by destruction, their rescue has provided a rare moment of relief for both responders and the local community.
